It’s a thick, dark and sweet syrup that is left over after a three stage sugarcane refining process, resulting in the molasses containing less sugar, but still holding the sugarcane sweetness and concentrated flavours of the naturally occurring vitamins and minerals.

An ice-cold glass of refreshment that brings out those delicate flavour notes of BACARDÍ rum while beautifully harmonising with the citrus of lime and the freshness of mint. Rum is made by fermenting and distilling sugarcane molasses or sugarcane juice. Afterwards, the clear liquid is aged in oak barrels to produce different types of rum, ranging from white to gold. BACARDÍ is a rum brand established in 1862 that has been producing world-class rums ever since. Our history is rich, and our hunger for continued innovation in the industry never ceases. Dark rum can be found black, brown and red in appearance and is usually, but not always, aged longer than gold or white rum.

It often indicates a more intense flavour profile, and is also delicious when used in cooking. Spiced rum is often aged for as long as dark rum, but has added spices and caramel colouring. It usually carries a bold, yet smooth taste. White rum is usually a light-bodied variant with a soft, sweet taste. It’s often used in light refreshing cocktails, especially favourites like the Mojito and Daiquiri.

Rum orginates from the Carribean, records from Barbados dating back to about 1650 first mention rum’s origin as the West Indies. Das Unternehmen ist der größte Spirituosenhersteller, der sich noch in Privatbesitz befindet. Die Eigentümergemeinschaft besteht aus rund 500 Mitgliedern der Gründerfamilie Bacardí. Emilio Bacardí Moreau, der Sohn des Firmengründers, kämpfte im letzten Drittel des 19. Die Familie Bacardí unterstützte den Kampf der Revolutionäre gegen den Diktator Fulgencio Batista. Nach der Kubanischen Revolution entrollte man im Januar 1959 am Firmengebäude ein Plakat mit den Worten Gracias Fidel.

Gegen Anfang der 1980er Jahre gründete ein anderes geschäftlich erfolgreiches Mitglied der Exilregierung, Jorge Mas Canosa, mit Unterstützung von US-Präsident Ronald Reagan in Florida die Cuban American National Foundation mit ungefähr 650 Mitgliedern. In den 1990er Jahren förderte die Familie Bacardi durch Lobbyarbeit die Verabschiedung des Helms-Burton Act durch den US-Kongress 1996. 1996 brachte eine von Bacardi betriebene Tochterfirma auf den Bahamas einen Rum unter dem Markennamen Havana Club mit einem zum Original veränderten Label in den USA auf den Markt. Ein Jahrzehnt später wurde dem kubanischen Staatsunternehmen Cubaexport die Lizenz zur Erneuerung der Markenrechte jedoch erteilt. Gegen diese Entscheidung klagte Bacardi wiederum vor einem Bezirksgericht im US-Bundesstaat Virginia. Die Klage wurde jedoch im April 2022 abgewiesen. Die originale Havana-Club-Rezeptur aus den 1930er Jahren wurde von der Familie Arechabala, den ursprünglichen Besitzern, die 1960 entschädigungslos auf Kuba enteignet worden war, dem Bacardi-Konzern in den 1990er Jahren neben den verbleibenden Rechten verkauft.
